Description

These festive cookies combine the sweetness of maraschino cherries with the richness of semi-sweet chocolate chips, creating a chewy and delightful treat. Perfect for holiday gatherings or any occasion that calls for a sweet indulgence.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups + 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt

  • 1½ sticks (12 tablespoons) salted butter, softened

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk, at room temperature

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 1 cup maraschino cherries, patted dry and chopped

  • Flaked salt, for topping

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

  • In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until fluffy, about 5 minutes.

  • Add the egg and egg yolk, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

  • Mix in the vanilla extract.

  • Gradually add the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  • Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped maraschino cherries.

  • Scoop or roll the dough into balls, approximately 1½ to 2 tablespoons in size, and place them about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.

  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cookies are just barely set.

  • Sprinkle with flaked salt and let cool completely before serving.

Notes

Ensure the maraschino cherries are well-drained and patted dry to prevent excess moisture in the dough.

For a festive touch, consider adding a few drops of red food coloring to the dough.

These cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week
