-
1½ sticks (12 tablespoons) salted butter, softened
-
1 cup brown sugar
-
½ cup granulated sugar
-
1 large egg + 1 egg yolk, at room temperature
-
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
-
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
-
1 cup maraschino cherries, patted dry and chopped
-
Flaked salt, for topping
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
-
In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until fluffy, about 5 minutes.
-
Add the egg and egg yolk, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
-
Mix in the vanilla extract.
-
Gradually add the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
-
Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped maraschino cherries.
-
Scoop or roll the dough into balls, approximately 1½ to 2 tablespoons in size, and place them about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
-
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cookies are just barely set.
-
Sprinkle with flaked salt and let cool completely before serving.
Notes
Ensure the maraschino cherries are well-drained and patted dry to prevent excess moisture in the dough.
For a festive touch, consider adding a few drops of red food coloring to the dough.
