Description

A hearty and comforting one‑dish casserole featuring layers of seasoned ground beef, thinly sliced potatoes, and melted cheese, baked until golden brown—perfect for busy weeknights or cozy family dinners.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 4–5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced

  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning

  • ½ teaspoon paprika

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • ½ cup beef broth or water

  • ¼ cup milk (optional, for creaminess)

  • Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 °F (190 °C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or olive oil.

  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and brown, breaking it apart, about 5–7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

  • Add chopped onion and minced garlic; cook 3–4 minutes until onion is soft and translucent.

  • Spread the cooked beef mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish. Arrange sliced potatoes on top. Season with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and paprika.

  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar and Parmesan over the potatoes. Pour beef broth (or water) around edges of the casserole. Optionally drizzle milk for extra creaminess.

  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes, until potatoes are tender and cheese is bubbly and golden.

  • Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired. Serve hot.

Notes

Make sure to brown the ground beef well and drain excess fat for a leaner dish.

Thin-slice potatoes (~¼ inch thick) to ensure even baking.

For extra creaminess, add milk or swap in heavier cheeses or cream soups.

Add vegetables like bell peppers, mushrooms or carrots to boost nutrition and flavor.
