Ingredients
-
1 cup water
-
6 Tbsp lower‑sodium soy sauce
-
3 Tbsp packed light brown sugar
-
1 Tbsp cornstarch
-
3 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 Tbsp minced fresh ginger (from a 1″ piece)
-
2 tsp unseasoned rice vinegar
-
3 Tbsp neutral oil (canola), divided
-
12 oz fresh broccoli florets (~5¼ cups)
-
1 lb 90/10 lean ground beef
-
½ tsp kosher salt
-
2 tsp toasted sesame seeds (optional)
-
2 green onions, thinly sliced (optional)
-
Steamed white rice, for serving
Instructions
-
Mix sauce: Whisk together water, soy sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, garlic, ginger, and rice vinegar.
-
Cook broccoli: Heat 1½ Tbsp oil in a skillet over medium-high. Add broccoli and stir-fry ~4–5 min until bright green and crisp-tender. Remove and set aside.
-
Brown beef: Add remaining oil, ground beef and salt to the skillet; cook until browned, about 6–8 min, breaking up meat as you cook.
-
Combine: Return broccoli to the skillet. Pour in sauce mixture, bring to a simmer, and cook ~2–3 min until sauce thickens.
-
Finish & serve: Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions (if using). Serve hot over steamed rice.
Notes
Use low‑sodium soy sauce to avoid excess salt.
Optional extras: red pepper flakes for heat; bell peppers or snap peas for color and texture
Try swapping neutral oil for sesame oil in the final sauce pour for added aroma.
