Description

Crispy, golden fried shrimp coated in a light batter and crunchy panko breadcrumbs, flavored with smoked paprika for a subtle smoky kick. Perfect as an appetizer or party snack with your favorite dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Tail-on jumbo raw prawns (or any raw prawns), peeled and deveined

  • 2 large eggs

  • ¼ cup water

  • ½ cup plain (all-purpose) flour

  • 1½ cups panko breadcrumbs

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (adjust to taste)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Oil, for deep frying

Instructions

  • Pat prawns dry and season lightly with salt and pepper.

  • In a bowl, whisk together eggs and water until combined.

  • In a separate bowl, mix flour and smoked paprika.

  • Place panko breadcrumbs in another shallow dish.

  • Dredge each prawn first in the flour mixture, shaking off excess.

  • Dip into the egg wash, then coat thoroughly with panko breadcrumbs.

  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or deep pan to 350°F (175°C).

  • Fry prawns in batches for 2–3 minutes or until golden and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pan.

  • Drain on paper towels and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Using jumbo tail-on prawns gives the best texture and presentation.

Make sure oil temperature is correct to get crispiness without sogginess.

Can be baked at 425°F (220°C) for 10–12 minutes for a healthier version but won’t be as crispy.

Serve with tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, or spicy mayo.
