Ingredients
-
2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter, at room temperature
-
1 cup granulated sugar
-
1 cup golden brown sugar, firmly packed
-
3 large eggs
-
1½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract
-
3 cups all-purpose flour
-
¾ teaspoon baking soda
-
¾ teaspoon salt
-
1½ cups M&M’s, plus extra for topping
-
1 cup mini chocolate chips, plus extra for topping
Instructions
-
Preheat & Prep: Preheat your oven to 350 °F (175 °C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper or grease it lightly.
-
Cream Butter & Sugar: In a large bowl, cream together the room-temperature butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
-
Add Eggs & Vanilla: Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until fully combined.
-
Whisk Dry Ingredients Separately: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
-
Combine: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined—don’t overmix.
-
Fold in Mix-ins: Gently fold in the M&M’s and mini chocolate chips, reserving a handful to sprinkle on top.
-
Transfer: Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top. Sprinkle additional M&M’s and chocolate chips on top.
-
Bake: Bake for 22–25 minutes, or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Avoid overbaking to keep the bars soft.
-
Cool & Cut: Let the bars cool completely in the pan (about 15–20 minutes) before using the parchment to lift them out and cut into squares or rectangles.
Notes
Mix-ins Swap: Try adding peanut butter or pretzel pieces for a salty-sweet twist.
Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4–5 days; these freeze well too!
