Ingredients

9 oz (255 g) lean ground beef

1 cup grated carrot

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 cup dry red wine

1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes

1/2 cup beef broth

1 tablespoon tomato paste

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon dried basil

Instructions

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.

Add chopped onion and grated carrot, sautéing until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

Increase heat to medium-high and add ground beef, cooking until browned and crumbled.

Stir in red wine, allowing it to reduce for 2-3 minutes.

Add crushed tomatoes, beef broth, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.

Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Notes
For a richer flavor, consider adding a splash of milk or cream towards the end of cooking.
This sauce can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
